Movesets

Set 1

Charizard Sprite

Charizard @ Salac Berry

EV:79 HP / 200 Atk / 241 Spd

Jolly Nature - +Spd -SAtk

- Belly Drum
- Subsitute
- Earthquake / Flamethrower / Aerial Ace / Hidden Power(Flying)
- Rock Slide / Flamethrower / Aerial Ace / Hidden Power(Flying)

This is the most common Charizard set; often referred to as BellyZard. You basically Use Substitute, which will sap 1/4 of your HP and keep you safe, and then use Belly Drum, thus activating Salac Berry and allowing you to take down alot of things successfully. The next moves are secondary offensive moves of your choice. The reason for Flamethrower is because it gets STAB and it gains a boost from Blaze, and you could nail Physical Walls with it.

Set 2

Charizard Sprite

Charizard @ Leftovers

EV:79 HP / 200 Atk / 241 Spd

Jolly Nature(+Spd -SAtk or Adamant Nature(+Atk -SAtk)

- Belly Drum
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Fire Blast / Overheat / Flamethrower

Much like the above set, except with the use of no Subtitute to hide behind. Without Substitute you can have more offensive moves to finish alot of Pokés of.

Set 3

Charizard Sprite

Charizard @ Leftovers

EV:198 HP / 200 Atk / 112 Spd

Jolly Nature - +Spd -SAtk

- Dragon Dance
- Flamethrower / Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide / Aerial Ace

I suppose that this DDZard could work as a sort of mini Salamence; this should, thus, lead off. This will completely clean your opponent. Inferior to Salamence; matches his Speed though. I suggest DClaw for killing him before he DDances up, but Flamethrower is there for obvious reasons.

Set 4

Charizard Sprite

Venusaur @ Choice Band

EV:6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd

Adamant Nature - +Atk -SAtk or Jolly Nature - +Spd -SAtk

- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Aerial Ace
- Fire Blast

Doesn't require setup. His attack, quite clearly needs to be boosted to be effective, so Choice Band could be an option. CBers are generally cleaners. If Skarm thinks he can ruin you, Fire Blast him off the wazoo.

Set 5

Charizard Sprite

Venusaur @ Leftovers

EV: 79 HP / 200 SAtk / 241 Spd

Modest Nature(+SAtk -Atk)

- Dragon Claw
- Flamethrower
- Hidden Power(Ice}/Hidden Power(Grass)
- Focus Punch / Earthquake

We move on to his best stat: his Special Attack. He can boost his Attack three ways, and that's why we use him Physically. He also has a horrendous Special Movepool. You might want to pass it a few Calm Minds or something. Dragon Claw and Flamethrower for obvious reasons; HP Ice for Sala and Grass for Pert and then Focus Punch to nail Blissey and Snorlaxen.

Set 6

Charizard Sprite

Venusaur @ Leftovers

EV: 79 HP / 200 Atk / 241 Spd

Jolly Nature(+Spd -Atk)

- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Aerial Ace

The third move he can raise his Attack with is Swords Dance; Two Stages up, to be precise. You don't need a Fire Move: in the switch to Skarm he'll get OHKO'ed by Rock Slide.

Other Options

Beat Up, Sunny Day, Ancientpower. Sunny Day to boost your fire; not recommended. Beat UP is definitely gimmick. Ancientpower if you prefer Accuracy

Analysis

Probably about the third best of Starters. He has an awesome physical movepool, and 3 different ways of boosting his Attack. He's the most used Belly Drummer, alongside Linoone and Poliwrath. He can finish things rather well, and is probably the second best Fire Type on the game IMO, after Houndoom. He is the only one of the drummers who can just Belly Drum without support, as he has good Speed and Defences. He has an exceptionally high Special Attack for a Fire type, aswell. Pick it for a Kanto starter if you want ideal offence

Counters

Claydol can counter every set, especially ones that use Psych Up. Aerodactly can pretty much kill it before it sets up with DDing, with a STABed Rock Slide for it, and can counter BellyZard pretty well. Raikou counters it. Jolteon does.

Using it

Well, it's one of the most effective Belly Drummers, so I would usually use it as that, support or no support. It's quite predictable now: if you kill Skarmory first you should have little problems, and it can even KO Skarm with Fire Blast before it sets up. If you drum with it, dig Claydol out and get him out of the way first. He Will be a threat. You can pass it some Calm Minds from Espeon if you so wish on to Special Zard. He is best with Memento the previous turn, actually. Weezing can Memento and then he can just setup with ease; and then if the opponent switches he'll get a free Belly Drum. You can also Sleep something in order to get Drum in. Doesn't need Paralysis support like Poliwrath
